Interesting idea you have there! Now if we were talking about a home desktop I would say it was well worth exploring your upgrade options. Desktop PC’s are pretty much a standard style, so the hardware within is made to a standard size and is designed in a way that your can swap parts out easily. So, it would be fairly easy to put more memory in and a bigger hard drive.

This is not always the case with laptops. Whilst most will allow you to upgrade the memory there will be a maximum size that you can go, which can be quite low. You might have 2 slots but both can be already in use, so you might have to through away your memory to find some more.

Things get more complicated with hard drives, you’ll have to make sure you get the right type for your model.

Over and above this your upgrade choices are very slim. Graphic cards and even processors are often embedded onto the motherboard, now of which you can get your hands on and change as they are often custom made to find the exact size of the unit.

So what about buying a refurbished laptop? If you pick a nearly new one then savings can still be had and you’ll benefit from newer technology than simply throwing money at your old one. It might also be worth looking at new deals as often these can be very competitive.
