People often look to me as their personal technology guide, I’m the friend they go to when they are considering an IT purchase, looking to upgrade their mobile or most often, looking to buy a replacement PC or Laptop.

A question I often get asked is “Should I buy a Refurbished Laptop?”, normally followed by a statement about having spotted a cheap one on Ebay. There are pros and cons to purchasing one but as I often say, I can’t make the decision for them, they need to consider the following:

• Do they want bang up to date technology, high spec graphics, etc? If so, they are probably better of buying a brand new one.
• Are you using it simply for surfing the net, sending emails, writing documents? A refurbished laptop should do all of these fine
• Are they looking for a long or extended warranty? If so, buy a new one
• Are they willing to take a chance on a slighty older laptop with a shorter warranty, to get the bargain price they are after? Is so, refurb
• Is image important? Do they want the latest Apple Macbook Pro? Or would they tolerate an older, maybe less known brand?

These are all the sort of logical questions you should be asking yourself if you are looking for a replacement laptop. You can get a bargain if you go for a refurbed one, but make sure you check out the specs and are confident that you really are getting the best deal. If so, go ahead and get yourself one. The worst case scenario, you can always sell it on Ebay once you are finished with it.
